Woodland Springs

Home Environment News Pictures Comments

The Woodland Springs Touring Park is situated in a secluded and tranquil hamlet which is inside the beautiful Dartmoor National Park, Devon. We welcome caravans, motor-homes and tents for which we provide the most natural surroundings and access to the site is excellent from the A30 with no narrow lanes to travel down. With the surroundings in mind the Park has been maintained in keeping with the natural environment to encourage wildlife. Deer, foxes and rabbits are regular visitors and with over 45 species of birds seen on the park over the past few years. It makes an ideal base for bird watching. It is also a haven for insects, birds and small mammals. Our park changes greatly through the seasons. You can see a large variety of flora and fauna, these are documented in the Wealth of Wildlife report that is available for you to read in reception.

We are in the parish of Drewsteignton in the hamlet of Venton. For those of a more energetic persuasion there are many invigorating walks on the adjoining moor. Golf, fishing, swimming and horse riding are all to be found nearby and the sandy beaches of Devon are only a 45 minute drive. Woodland Springs' excellent central location and access to main routes makes it an ideal base for touring Devon and Cornwall. Make sure you visit the nearby attractions of Castle Drogo, Spinsters Rock, Finch Foundry, Stone Lane Gardens incorporating The Mythic Garden, the Dartmoor Prison Museum and Bowden Hostas. There is also Fernworthy reservoir just outside Chagford that has some spectacular views what ever time of year you go. You must also visit Dartmoor itself. If you like to spend your time reading or painting and drawing Woodland Springs is the ideal place for you. It's also a great place to hide away and simply relax. The Park is usually attended and night time security is maintained by the gate being locked at 11:00pm and reopened at 07:30am. Chris and Jan live on site and are available if you have any questions, problems or need an extra pair of hands with your awning etc. We have been caravanning for 30+ years and like to think we have a good idea of what our visitors would like.

The toilet block has free hot water and showers and is also centrally heated during the colder months. We welcome dogs and other pets and we also have Day Kennels for hire should you want to go somewhere you  can not take the dogs.

Daffodils in the Woods

Woodland Springs is a four acre (1.6 he) park enjoying stunning views across Dartmoor and is surrounded by woodland and neighbouring fields. At present our own woodland attached to the park are not accessible to our visitors but with a lot of hard work we are hoping to put in paths for walks so everyone can enjoy the beauty of the woodland and the wild life that can be seen there.

Nearby pubs are the Fingle Bridge Inn at Fingle Bridge (there is a good walk from here), the Sandy Park Inn at Sandy Park and the Drewe Arms in Drewsteignton and more. There are many varied eating and drinking establishments in the area. There are local shopping facilities in Chagford and Okehampton. Chagford being a small stannary town with traditional shops and Okehampton being a more modern town with a mixture of traditional butchers, bakers and supermarkets.
